One of the main concerns of Gato Batata is respect for the environment. Therefore, all waste from its activities is carefully treated to avoid contamination of water, soil, and air.
At Gato Batata, it is stored in proper tanks and later used for fertigation. The cachaça produced at the beginning (heads) and end (tails) of the distillation, byproducts that would be discarded, are redistilled and transformed into fuel ethanol for the distillery's vehicles.
The residue from the milling process is biomass used in the boiler for steam generation, which represents significant savings in the use of other organic fuels, such as firewood.
To ensure responsible use of the water consumed in the manufacturing process, Gato Batata has a closed circuit. When discarded, it is sent to the vinasse tank to be later used for fertigation.
